Music used to be a big part of my life. I played three instruments and sang through middle school and high school. I'm married to a musician. As a teen, I used to love my mixed tapes and then, cds. When I hear certain songs, I automatically picture where I was and what I was doing when I used to listen to them.
But lately, I haven't listened to much music. My iPod has been gathering dust on my night table. In fact, I barely even know how to download new music from iTunes. Mostly, I feel too busy for music, too consumed with other things. Which I don't think is a good thing because I realized this weekend, I miss music.
So I dusted off the iPod and started listening. And I decided that I need a theme song, that this journey towards positivity needs a theme song. A song that inspires me, makes me happy, or that when I hear, years from now, will make me remember how much I wanted to be become an optimist.
The song I chose was Don't Stop Believin' -- the Glee version, of course :-) Which I love as much for Lea Michele's voice as for the fact that it makes me feel, well, happy, and optimistic.
What's your theme song of the moment? Does it inspire you to believe in yourself or stay positive?

Here is one that has always been my song -- though it's very silly, and barely a song, it never failed to lift my spirit in the darkest moments: "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swim-ming, swim-ming, swim-ming . . . "
ReplyDeleteAlso, a very good, positive one!
ReplyDeleteMy theme song right now is B.O.B featuring Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams, "Airplanes" I listen to it on loop from my i-pod while on my treadmill. "Pretend that airplanes are shooting stars in the night's sky- I could really use a wish right now..." Really hopeful and inspiring song about not giving up hope, the time will come for success if you persevere. Inside the darkness of my mind, comes a spark, some little hope in the enveloping dark. Oh yeah, my mom used to sing "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine, this little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine...cause I'm so happy so very happy..." That used to make me happy :)
ReplyDeleteLove those lyrics, Evelyn. I'm going to go check that out!
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite song is, "Imagine," by John Lennon. I think it fits me perfectly as I'm always hoping for the world to be a better place than what it is. And here's where I get really confusing. I've said in a past post that I am a positive-realist, but I'm also a big dreamer. You could say I live in my own little happy bubble because I try to avoid the news in order to not hear about the horrible things going on - this way I can think (on some level) that everything is great. "Imagine all the people, living life in peace..."
ReplyDeleteLove that song, Stacy!
